As part of the STRATUS activities, Regione Toscana successfully hosted a two-part demonstration webinar series on precision fertilisation tools, selected during the first round of best practice (BP) collection.
The first session, held on Friday, 16 October 2026, examined prescription maps for vineyard fertilisation generated through 3D point clouds and artificial intelligence on mobile devices. Introduced by Silvia Innocenti from Regione Toscana, Niccolò Bartoloni from Agrobit srl showcased how multispectral data from satellites, drones, and field sensors (via the iDrone platform) are converted into prescription maps for variable-rate equipment (VRE). He highlighted how vegetation indices like NDVI allow growers to address specific nutrient deficiencies while avoiding fertilizer waste.
The second session, conducted on Friday, 23 October 2026, focused on variable-rate fertilisation driven by crop vigour mapping Luana Centorame from Agrobit srl presented the iAgro mobile application. She demonstrated how standard smartphone cameras and GPS modules create 3D canopy models and digital twins to produce automated, variable-rate foliar fertilisation maps. The session concluded with an interactive discussion on the operational advantages and user requirements of this mobile technology. Andrea Pagliai from DAGRI UNIFI contributed valuable scientific perspectives during the open discussion.
Throughout both webinars, participants emphasized the central role of agricultural advisors in interpreting digital data and guiding practical implementation. Attendees noted that decision support tools complement rather than replace professional advisory expertise. Furthermore, cross-sector knowledge exchange and direct field validation were identified as vital steps to overcome initial farmer reluctance and unlock the full economic and environmental potential of precision agriculture.
